Look How Far We’ve Come!

I think I’m just going to come right out and say this, this post is going to be a little sentimental, and I just want to look back at the past year that I’ve been blogging. Like, wow it’s hard to believe I’ve been running this blog for about a whole year now, and I just… I find that really incredible because I couldn’t believe I would actually make it this far honestly. So I guess this is going to a bit of a throwback post, even if it’s not Thursday just yet, so sit back and look how far we’ve come since the beginning.

Almost There!

Disney’s The Princess and the Frog is such an important movie to me because, not only does it show people of color in excellence, which is always a plus, just the overall themes and morals of the story, how wishing on stars won’t always get you where you need to go, or how no matter how hard you work towards a goal, there’s something more important, that love is there, etc, etc, and just… I think it was such a beautifully done movie, the animation was gorgeous and just I think that it was a really great movie for Disney to end its hand drawn animation period with. Perfection, actually.

But gushing about a basically perfect movie isn’t just what I wanted to talk about, I just wanted to talk, and maybe rant a little about how this movie applies to real life.

Welcome Summer! And Hello Finals!

It’s been awhile since my last blog post, I’ve had a bit of a rough patch this past few weeks, but i’m starting to get back in the swing of things and I think I’d like to mass post a few things. I’m gonna start off with introducing the recent CalArts final animations from this past semester, about a month late, but hey I found a few really great ones that I simply love honestly.

This first one is about, well, art coming to life, and battling deadlines if it wasn’t evident from the title! Four students from completely different fields come together to help everyone finish their final animations!

Steven In My Universe

When I was much younger, cartoons seemed so… simplistic. I mean they’re made for child audiences, right? So why wouldn’t they be simplistic, as children don’t have the capacity to understand greater… more complicated… deeper things. So I grew up on shows like Spongebob Squarepants, Fairly Oddparents, and really just about any show that had quirky characters and a color scheme that burned my eyes. Don’t get me wrong, I loved watching these shows as a kid, they were my childhood, and I still do watch them from time to time when I cross them on TV and I simply want to go into a daze for awhile. But what I’ve noticed is that children’s television seems to be getting deeper… and I really like that.

Mulan? more like Mu-Lies

After a pretty heated debate with a friend of mine, It came to my attention that Mulan wasn’t actually based on the chinese poem that we’ve all come to associate with the beloved Disney movie. Sure, the concept and idea came from the poem, but where exactly did the plot come from?

I love Honey Lemon

I have a lot of opinions about Honey Lemon from Big Hero 6, and just… I really love her so much as a character because I think she’s really a character we all really needed to see.

Don’t get me wrong I really love all the characters in Big Hero 6, all of them were just really well rounded and very strong characters and overall had a very nice distinct personality and look to them, aside from the lazy animation of reusing those old Rapunzel models on Honey and Go Go Tomago, same face syndrome just makes me so mad, but I’m not going to get into that, this post is about how much I really love the strong female characters in Big Hero 6, more specifically Honey Lemon.
